It's a tough gig, testing boats in the BVI. Philippe Echelle from Multihulls World got the call last spring to test the Leopard 51 PC (as a Moorings 514PC) out of The Moorings' base in Road Town. The experienced multihull industry writer produced a comprehensive report on the power cat, delving deep into hull design to give context to the boat's performance.

This spring, an Australian couple with 3 young children purchased a pre-owned Gib'Sea 51 from our Moorings Brokerage office in St. Martin. Today, Knot Crazy, formerly known as Tengger in the Moorings charter fleet, calls Sydney home after a 9,000 NM journey. Pictured above, she stands in front of the Sydney Opera House and symbolically passes under the Sydney Harbor Bridge. The Moorings Yacht Brokerage sells more than 200 formerly chartered boats each year, but few travel this far to reach their new homes.

With designer Alexander Simonis at the wheel of his own creation, this Leopard 51 Powercat gracefully pushed through rough seas produced by the 35-40 knot winds off of Cape Town in order to stay with the Volvo Ocean Race fleet at the start of Leg 2 this week. What an opportunity for the builders, designers and sales agents on board.

These brand new 42-51' monohulls will join the Moorings fleet in time for the winter season in the Caribbean. These yachts have quite a few adventures ahead.
They'll cross the Atlantic, acquire owners (if they're not already spoken for), have champagne bottles broken over their bows, go into charter service, do laps around the BVI or another picture-perfect destination, sail the trade winds, get hauled out for regular maintenance, anchor in the world's best coves, bays and harbors, complete a very large number of tacks and jibes, perhaps even race in a few regattas, and more.
