Leopard Catamarans and Robertson and Caine

CLEARWATER, FL (February 2015) – Having successfully collaborated for almost 20 years, TUI Marine and South African builder Robertson & Caine have committed to a 10-year renewal of their exclusive distribution and supply agreement. This strategic partnership has resulted in exceptional growth of the award-winning Leopard Catamarans brand.

New Leopard 40 Sailing Catamaran

Our video series for the Leopard 40 Launch presents interviews with many of the important people that created this new blue water cruising catamaran, as well as footage of hull 1 leaving the factory, her launch celebration, and her first sail...in 35 knots of breeze! The launch of a brand new model is an exciting time for catamaran buyers, but also for builders, designers, and everybody involved in the production of the boat.

Used Gib'Sea 51 Caribbean to Australia

This spring, an Australian couple with 3 young children purchased a pre-owned Gib'Sea 51 from our Moorings Brokerage office in St. Martin. Today, Knot Crazy, formerly known as Tengger in the Moorings charter fleet, calls Sydney home after a 9,000 NM journey. Pictured above, she stands in front of the Sydney Opera House and symbolically passes under the Sydney Harbor Bridge. The Moorings Yacht Brokerage sells more than 200 formerly chartered boats each year, but few travel this far to reach their new homes.

Leopard 51 PC Cape Town

With designer Alexander Simonis at the wheel of his own creation, this Leopard 51 Powercat gracefully pushed through rough seas produced by the 35-40 knot winds off of Cape Town in order to stay with the Volvo Ocean Race fleet at the start of Leg 2 this week. What an opportunity for the builders, designers and sales agents on board.

Monohulls from Group Beneteau

These brand new 42-51' monohulls will join the Moorings fleet in time for the winter season in the Caribbean. These yachts have quite a few adventures ahead.

They'll cross the Atlantic, acquire owners (if they're not already spoken for), have champagne bottles broken over their bows, go into charter service, do laps around the BVI or another picture-perfect destination, sail the trade winds, get hauled out for regular maintenance, anchor in the world's best coves, bays and harbors, complete a very large number of tacks and jibes, perhaps even race in a few regattas, and more.

Buying a used charter boat is a great way to get good value in a yacht purchase. But as Moorings Brokerage customer, seasoned blue-water sailor and writer David Kory notes, many people wonder "what's the deal?" Kory answers this question with his thorough, honest, and informative report "Buying a Boat Out of Charter" in this month's Southwinds Magazine. Aside from pointing out the good value, he offers recommendations for prospective buyers that cover everything from researching from home, the importance of the survey and sea trial, and considerations for resale value, among other points.
